Absolutely! For example, I put the (c) after every article in my e-zine. I also add it to the bottom of every page on special reports that I give away to prospective clients, training materials, e-books, and my writing lessons. These are all self-published works.

I hope this helps!

Hello Melinda,

Can you give an actual example of putting the (c) date etc line on our unpublished or self-published work?

Thanks - Jennifer

Heidi,
Thanks for commenting! I've actually heard that too--agents and editors don't like to see copyright on an unpublished manuscript. I've also heard that they perceive it as unprofessional when they get a submission and the author has put the copyright symbol on their unpublished manuscript. Whether or not that's true is hard to say.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the info. From what I've read of submission guidelines for publishing houses/editors and agents, they do *not* want to see a copyright on an unpublished manuscript. If a manuscript is accepted and then published, my understanding the publishing house takes care of registering the copyright. For a self-published author, it's a different story, since that person is the publisher.
